Totally Microtic

Mandy leaned against the kitchen counter, casually chatting on her phone. “I know, right? It’s like, ugh, everyone is so jealous of me. But who can blame them?” she said, letting out a melodramatic sigh as she admired her reflection in the polished refrigerator door.

On the floor below her, chaos was brewing.

“Hey! Mandy! Look down here!” Sam shouted, her tiny voice barely audible against the buzz of the kitchen appliances. She jumped up and down, waving her arms frantically, but Mandy didn’t notice.

“Yeah, no, I get something else to do the work for me,” Mandy continued, oblivious. “I mean, why would I when I have the Roomba? It’s literally a lifesaver.”

“Of course, she’s not listening!” Clover groaned, throwing her hands in the air. “Why would she when we're just specks!”

“We have to try again!” Alex said, running toward the base of the counter. “If we can climb up her, maybe she’ll see us!”

But before they could progress, a low mechanical hum began to fill the air. Sam froze, her heart sinking. “Um...guys?”

Behind them, the Roomba whirred to life, its lights blinking as it began its programmed cleaning cycle.

“Oh, come on!” Clover shouted. “Does it seriously have to turn on now?!”

“It knows we're here! Run!” Sam yelled, grabbing Alex by the arm and pulling her along as the massive machine rolled toward them, its spinning brushes sweeping perilously close.

The three Spies bolted across the kitchen floor, their tiny feet slipping slightly on the smooth tiles. The Roomba moved with eerie precision, its mechanical hum growing louder as it closed the distance.

“Mandy! Help us!” Alex screamed, glancing back at the oncoming machine.

Mandy twirled a strand of hair around her finger, laughing at something the person on the phone had said. “Yeah, I know, right? I’m the only one who can pull off this look and get the boys. Everyone else? Psh. Total wannabes.”

“Dammit! I wish we had a megaphone right about now!” Clover shrieked, darting around a fallen crumb that was massive at their scale.

“We need to get out of its path!” Sam called out, leading them toward the kitchen corner, where a chair leg offered some potential cover. “Head for that chair!”

Above them, Mandy shifted her stance, her heel coming down dangerously close to the fleeing spies. They stumbled as the ground trembled beneath them but managed to keep going.

The Roomba roared closer, its spinning brushes nearly grazing Alex’s leg as she pushed herself to run faster. “This thing’s relentless!”

“We’ll make it!” Sam urged. “Just keep going!”

Unaware of the tiny chaos unfolding below, Mandy continued her phone call. “Anyway, I’ve got to go. My Roomba’s doing its thing, and I don’t want to mess up my floors. Byeee!” she said, hanging up and strolling toward the fridge, still blissfully unaware of the miniature drama beneath her feet.
